Give them a treat and they will reward you...

A few tips to help you get the most out of the CW Baits range of boilies and boilie ingredients....

During the colder water temperatures of winter the carp, being cold blooded cratures, slow down their motabolism and the need for food greatly reduces. The colder the water the colder the fish gets and if cold enough carp can drop to a semi dormant state where they will not want to move much due to the engergy needed to swim. How does this affect our fishing and bait application?
To make it quite simple, if a highly digestible and beneficial bait is placed in the correct location, close to a winter hot spot or holding area it will very likely be eaten. If the bait is easy to digest and the fish gains more energy from the ingredients than it uses to actually digest the bait then it will give the fish a boost, energy hit or natural feel good factor which can trigger the fish to try another bait and another until it has enough free energy to induce a little feeding spell. The higher the grade of easily digestible ingredients the more the fish will consume and the chance of your hookbait being confidently taken will increase.
To maximise this feeding spell and the chance of a pickup we suggest you take advantage of the paste which accompanies each range of boilie. The paste can be mixed with lake water or to really maximise your chances try using liquid Minamino, L-Zero-30 fish protein liquid, tigernut extract, Salmon Protein etc etc. The key to a successful paste is water solubility where the attraction is free to waft around in the natural flow of the lake water. The higher the inclusion level of liquid attractors the better the chance of the fish being woken from its semi dormant state. After a short period of time the paste will begin to breakdown as it takes on water and starts to dissolve. By using variable density ingredients the cloud of attraction will naturally form different layers where it will spread allow the lake bed and rise up into the high water levels. The cloud of attraction will being carrying all kinds of fish attracting signals and stimulants which can really give you a massive edge on the coldest of days.
Glugs are one of the most effective methods of adding free flowing attraction to your hookbaits, simply take a handful of freezer boilies, place them in a dip pot and now cover them with a matching liquid food boilie glug. These boilies will gradually take on all the liquid glug and become saturated in an amino acid rich soup of stimulatiing attraction. All of our boilie dips are based on either an amino acid liquid which contains a complete range of amino acids, vitamins and minerals and is especially formulated to encourage feeding or if it is a fishmeal base boilie it will be based on a hydrolysed fish protein base. Both glug bases are highly attractive and packed full of feeding triggers so, even on the coldest of days they will disperse freely in the water and greatly enhance your hookbaits. This pot of hookbaits you have now created will not need to be frozen and will certainly catch you many fish.
Spodding can also be a very good way of attracting fish in the winter time. Although many may think of spodding as a summer baiting method when the need to put out large beds of bait at range, this is very true but, when you adapt your approach to the time of year spodding can be deadly. During the winter time a few carefully placed spods of broken boilies and quick breakdown pellets soaked in water soluble liquid attractors can really pay off. By adding seasalt to the boilies and pellets will also generate interest form the fish and extra additives like betaine, green lipped mussel and coconut milk powder can really pay off on a cold day. Try soaking broken boilies in a mix of lake water, sea salt, betaine, robin red and tigernut extract liquid. The list is endless but by giving it a little thought you can massively increase your chances of success.
Flavours can also be used to enhance your hookbait performance. The best flavours in the winter are one which can easily disperse into the surrounding water were they can draw fish in from far away. Ethyl Alcohol based flavours are one of the most highly water soluble flavour ranges to use as they are very thin and mix extremely well with water. Ethyl Alcohol (EA) flavours do tend to be used during the colder weather due to the rapid leak off into the water which can create some very instant takes if the bait is placed in a hotspot feeding area. Essential oils can also be mixed with the flavours to create a unique flavour combination which will have a variable release time prolonging the attraction. In the depths of winter an emulsifier is advised to help the essential oils remain this and in liquid form, they will also help the oils to mix with the water forming an emulsion of bioactive compounds which carp love to home in on due to their stimulating effects.
PVA bag mixes can be vital in the winter especially if they contain a high level of liquid food additives and attractors. Try mixing milk powders with tigernut extract, thaumatin protein sweetener, coconut milk powder and some tigernut flour to create a soft paste. Fill your PVA bag with this highly attractive paste and it will work its magic for several hours releasing masses of irrisitible attraction into your swim and pulling fish in to investigate.
These are just a few little tips which will give you an edge when you most need it, during the winter! The idea is to give it a little bit of thought and to try little edges rather than just sitting behind the rods waiting and hoping a fish will come along and take your bait. Work for the fish as best you can by trying some of the tips mentioned above and the rewards will come flooding in.
